Basketball Game Preview: Granbury Pirates vs. Chisholm Trail Rangers

The Granbury Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Chisholm Trail Rangers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Granbury was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to Aledo. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 502nd, while the Bearcats are ranked 108th).

Meanwhile, Chisholm Trail had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They walked away with a 63-56 victory over the Rough Riders.

Granbury better focus on containing Jesse Mutombo and Kaden Richardson as the pair were huge in Chisholm Trail's win. Mutombo dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Richardson went 8 of 18 on his way to 23 points. Richardson's evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Omari Johnson, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Chisholm Trail has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.1 points per game. As for Granbury, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season.

Granbury came up short against Chisholm Trail in their previous meeting back in December of 2015, falling 45-39. Can Granbury avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
