Basketball Game Preview: Maiden Blue Devils vs. South Point Red Raiders

The Maiden Blue Devils will venture away from home to square off against the South Point Red Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Maiden's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

If Maiden beats South Point with 60 points on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Blue Devils enjoyed a cozy 60-44 victory over West Cabarrus on Saturday.

Khiara Culliver continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 22 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Raegan Rembert, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 15 points and five rebounds.

Maiden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, South Point was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 51-28 to North Buncombe. While losing is never fun, the Red Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 406th, while the Black Hawks are ranked 171st).

Maiden will have to contain Ja'Nyiah Bittle as she made an impact in South Point's last game. She posted nine points. Malachia Brown also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Maiden's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for South Point, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Maiden hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 74.4 points per game. It's a different story for South Point, though, as they've been averaging only 27.5 points. The only thing between Maiden and another offensive beatdown is the Red Raiders.
