Volleyball Recap: West Mesa Mustangs vs. Los Lunas Tigers

After flying high against Atrisco Heritage Academy last Tuesday, West Mesa came back down to earth. The West Mesa Mustangs came up short against the Los Lunas Tigers on Thursday, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2021.

The match finished with set scores of 25-4, 25-12, 25-3.

Loss or not, West Mesa got some senior leadership from Jaida Alcaraz and Leanne Chavez. Alcaraz had 19 digs, while Chavez had 17 digs. Those 19 digs set a new season-high mark for Alcaraz. The team also got some help courtesy of Marah Perea, who had seven digs and a kill.

Among those leading the charge was Addison Cordova-Wolfe, who had eight digs and three aces.

West Mesa has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Los Lunas, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5.

West Mesa will venture away from home to face off against Rio Grande at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Los Lunas has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against La Cueva on the 19th.
