Football Recap: Gateway Gators vs. State College Little Lions
Gateway kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a blow against the State College Little Lions, falling 41-14. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.
Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elvis Koutsakis, Jr, who threw for 189 yards and two TDs. Tyree Gowder was Koutsakis, Jr's top target, picking up 90 receiving yards and one score.
D'Antae Sheffey was nothing short of spectacular for State College: he rushed for 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Connor Kulka was another key player, throwing for 130 yards and a pair of TDs.
Coming up, Gateway will be playing in front of their home fans against North Allegheny at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for State College, they are taking a road trip to challenge Altoona at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Little Lions their first taste of in-conference action this season.
