Baseball Recap: Five Straight Home Wins for Estill County

Estill County waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Owsley County Owls / Lady Owls get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Engineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Mason Raider and Logan Friend made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Raider tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Friend tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Raider has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Raider went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Friend went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Raider has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Kooper Powell and Mason Griggs did most of the damage at the plate: Powell went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Griggs went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Griggs a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Woolery, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Estill County pushed their record up to 16-10 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Owsley County, they moved to 8-16 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

As of now, neither Estill County nor the Owls / Lady Owls have any future games scheduled.
