Basketball Recap: Lake Weir Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Lake Weir hadn't done well against North Marion recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Lake Weir Hurricanes had just enough and edged the North Marion Colts out 61-59. For the Hurricanes, this counts as revenge for the 57-52 victory the Colts walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Lake Weir had a senior duo take command as Alcarlos Richard dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards and John Smith went 6 of 7 on his way to 16 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for Smith. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Henderson, who posted ten points.

North Marion lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Coy Sizemore, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 14 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Elijah Lee, who had nine points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Lake Weir is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for North Marion, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-4.

Lake Weir wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-31 win against Belleview on the 10th. As for North Marion, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-35 victory against Columbia on the 11th.
