Recap: Sam Houston Hurricanes vs. Pieper Warriors

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Sam Houston Hurricanes can now relate to. They were outmatched by Pieper on the road and fell 33-0. While losing is never fun, Sam Houston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 711th, while Pieper is ranked 126th).

Amir Calhoun threw for 90 yards on 15 of 31 attempts. Jeremiah Espitia was his top target, picking up 50 receiving yards.

Jake South looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 326 yards and three touchdowns. South is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last five games he's played. Andrew Grinestaff also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Sam Houston to a paltry 71 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Pieper's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out six times before it was all said and done. In that department, Hyrum McCarter was the leader with three sacks.

Sam Houston's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Pieper, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

Sam Houston does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Pieper will take on Mission Veterans Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mission Veterans Memorial is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
