Basketball Recap: Parker Volk and Jack Poppe Secure Win for Doniphan-Trumbull

It was a proper cat-fight when Doniphan-Trumbull faced off against Fillmore Central on Thursday. The Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals walked away with a 60-51 win over the Fillmore Central Panthers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cardinals also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Leading Doniphan-Trumbull to victory were Jack Poppe and Parker Volk. Poppe dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Volk went 13-for-16 en route to 29 points and six boards. Volk's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Luke Askey was another key player, putting up four points and five rebounds.

Doniphan-Trumbull was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They racked up 11 more assists than Fillmore Central's also-impressive total of 11.

Fillmore Central lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Daniel Stoner, who shot 53% from the field to rack up 18 points and five assists. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kinyon Miller, who went 5-for-6 on his way to 14 points.

Doniphan-Trumbull has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The loss snapped Fillmore Central's winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 20-5 record.

Doniphan-Trumbull has already played their next contest, a 57-52 victory against Holdrege on the 1st. Fillmore Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
