Baseball Recap: Somerset Drops Season-High Score on Ellsworth

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Somerset). They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Ellsworth Panthers 12-11. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 on Tuesday.

The team relied heavily on Dane Gilewski, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Mason Schmidt also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Somerset kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Somerset's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-4. As for Ellsworth, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

Coming up, Somerset will welcome New Richmond at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ellsworth, they will head out on the road to take on Spring Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
