Football Recap: Wolcott Takes a Loss

If Wolcott was riding high fresh off their 36-0 takedown of Derby last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles and the Seymour Wildcats were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but the Eagles suffered a 21-20 defeat. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost five in a row.

Leading Seymour to victory were Connor Shea and Anthony Cortello. Shea rushed for 167 yards and two TDs, while Cortello rushed for 143 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Shea is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 105 every time he's taken the field this season.

Wolcott's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Seymour, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. After each having a week off, Wolcott and Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic will shake off the rust and duke it out at 1:00 p.m. on the 25th. The Eagles will be up against the Yellowjackets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Seymour, they will square off against Watertown at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
