Baseball Game Preview: Owen County Rebels vs. Henry County Wildcats

For the second straight game, Owen County will face off against Henry County. The Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Owen County is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since May 25, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 8-1 to Henry County. The Rebels haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

For Henry County's part, Jaylan Hortenbury spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 11 Ks. Hortenbury has become a key player for the Wildcats: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 3-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Nicholas Bryan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Camden Peyton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Henry County pushed their record up to 5-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Owen County, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-4.
