After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Marquette, St. Dominic was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Incarnate Word Academy Red Knights with a sharp 3-0 win. The Crusaders not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since September 30th (when they won 3-0).
While St. Dominic might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Incarnate Word Academy scored at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 29-27, 25-22.
Maria Nettler paced St. Dominic's offense, picking up 12 kills. Nettler got some help from Charlotte Bland and her 30 assists. Emily Frazier and Natalie Frazier kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.
Despite the loss, Incarnate Word Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kendall Stroer had ten digs and one assist. Kylee Donahue also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
St. Dominic's victory bumped their record up to 22-8-2. As for Incarnate Word Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 21-14.
St. Dominic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-2 defeat against Cor Jesu Academy on the 20th. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Hazelwood West on the 21st.
