Baseball Recap: Westmont Hilltop Comes Up Short

Westmont Hilltop fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Bishop McCort on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Crushers by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Hilltoppers have lost by just one run.

Justin Ray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Westmont Hilltop saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Goodman, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

Westmont Hilltop now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Bishop McCort, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Westmont Hilltop didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-3 loss against Richland on the 22nd. As for Bishop McCort, they have also already played their next match, a 13-8 defeat against Penn Cambria on the 21st.
