Baseball Game Preview: Grace Davis Spartans vs. Big Valley Christian Lions

The Grace Davis Spartans will square off against the Big Valley Christian Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grace Davis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Grace Davis was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Modesto Christian on Saturday. Grace Davis was the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over Modesto Christian. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their one-run performance the game before.

David Apple tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Grace Davis let Mendoza Oscar and Landon McCay run wild. Oscar got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while McCay scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave McCay a new career-high in hits (three). Logan Ariza was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Grace Davis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Big Valley Christian suffered their biggest loss since April 19, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 13-7 to Ripon Christian. The loss was the Lions' first of the season.

Big Valley Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Heinrich, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Having lost for the first time this season, Big Valley Christian fell to 1-1-1. As for Grace Davis, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Everything went Grace Davis' way against Big Valley Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Grace Davis made off with a 15-4 victory. Does Grace Davis have another victory up their sleeve, or will Big Valley Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
