South Point hasn't had much luck against Dawson-Bryant recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Pointers will look to defend their home field against the Hornets at 5:30 p.m. South Point is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
South Point barely beat Chesapeake the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pointers were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Panthers on Friday. While the Pointers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kota Copley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Copley was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Copley is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Saratina Jackson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Alli Stidham was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
South Point kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 19 runs the game before, Dawson-Bryant was a bit more limited in their matchup on Wednesday. They fell 4-1 to Rock Hill.
Dawson-Bryant saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Bare, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Bare hit this season.
Dawson-Bryant's defeat ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-3. As for South Point, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Point has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dawson-Bryant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Point came up short against Dawson-Bryant in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 10-5. Can the Pointers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
