Softball Recap: Rogers Vikings vs. Cranston East Thunderbolts
Rogers was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They suffered a rough 15-2 loss at the hands of the Cranston East Thunderbolts. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Rogers of the 14-13 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
For Cranston East's part, Isabella Sousa and Lexi Montalban made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sousa struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Montalban tossed two innings while giving up no earned run off one hit. Sousa has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. At the plate, Sousa went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Montalban scored a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Cranston East got a massive performance out of Nevaeh Fatorma, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Fatorma has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Samaya Imondi was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.
Rogers' loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Cranston East, the victory for them keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Rogers will head out on the road to face off against Davies Career & Tech at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cranston East, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shea at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
