Softball Recap: North Port Takes Down Lehigh in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only North Port walked away with it. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lehigh Lightning a 20-0 shutout on Monday. The Bobcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Hailey Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Timmons, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

North Port hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win made it two in a row for North Port and bumps their season record up to 11-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Lehigh, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13-1 record this season.

North Port will face off against Riverview Sarasota at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bobcats surely won't give up without a fight. Lehigh does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
