Softball Game Preview: Mapletown Maples vs. Carmichaels Mighty Mikes

Mapletown hasn't had much luck against Carmichaels recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Maples will head out to challenge the Mighty Mikes at 4:15 p.m. Mapletown has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mapletown is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Monday. They came up short against Avella, falling 12-2.

Meanwhile, Carmichaels strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Bethlehem Center as they made off with a 9-1 victory. The Mighty Mikes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by eight runs or more this season.

Bailey Barnyak was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Carmichaels got a massive performance out of Ali Jacobs, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ashton Batis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Carmichaels kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.

Mapletown's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Carmichaels, their win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0.

Mapletown suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Carmichaels when the teams last played on Tuesday. Can the Maples avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
