Football Game Preview: Newton Cardinals vs. Clear Creek-Amana Clippers

The Newton Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Clear Creek-Amana Clippers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Newton has four straight victories, Clear Creek-Amana has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Newton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Iowa's top teams: Pella, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Newton was ranked 16th). The Cardinals came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dutch on Friday, sneaking past 35-33. Newton's win was all the more impressive since the Dutch were averaging only 10.5 points allowed on the season.

Meanwhile, Clear Creek-Amana lost 35-13 to Marion on Friday. The game marked the Clippers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Clear Creek-Amana's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Newton, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Everything came up roses for Newton against Clear Creek-Amana in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, as the team secured a 27-0 win. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Clippers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
