Basketball Recap: Trayson Carlson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Moffat County over Basalt

Moffat County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the Basalt Longhorns, falling 68-47. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 80-64 back in January.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trayson Carlson, who posted nine points and three steals. Jr Welch was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Moffat County was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive matches.

Elias Schendler continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Basalt, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, Schendler is now averaging an impressive 8.2 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Hays, who earned seven points and 11 rebounds.

Moffat County's record is now 3-13. As for Basalt, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moffat County will venture away from home to take on Summit at 2:00 p.m. on February 8th. As for Basalt, they are taking a road trip to challenge Steamboat Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Basalt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season.
