Football Game Preview: Giddings Buffaloes vs. Madisonville Mustangs

The Giddings Buffaloes will take on the Madisonville Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Giddings is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight games on Friday. They lost 66-42 to La Grange.

Meanwhile, Madisonville entered their contest against Bellville on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Mustangs fell just short of the Brahmas by a score of 48-45. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Brahmas are ranked 88th).

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Jaden Simpson and Travis Turner. Turner had a great game and rushed for 323 yards and four TDs while picking up 14.7 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Simpson was balling out in the loss, rushing for 222 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry.

Madisonville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Giddings, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Giddings took a serious blow against Madisonville in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 49-7. Thankfully for the Buffaloes, Phillip Green (who rushed for 180 yards and three scores on only six carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
