League recap: Windsor extends winning streak with victory over Greeley Central

4A Northern recap Oct. 9, 2012

Windsor extended the longest winning streak in 4A Northern this week by beating Greeley Central, 49-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Wizards.

Windsor took down the Wildcats 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Blake Bunday ran for 123 yards in the win.

Austin Ryan and Jeremiah Clymer gave Mountain View a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Ryan threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns, while Clymer ran for 144 yards. Ryan also contributed to the rushing game with 57 yards on the ground.

Joe Lopez made the biggest impact on defense this week as Longmont beat Thompson Valley. The junior forced one fumble, recorded one fumble and racked up 2.0 sacks.

Elijah Noterman was the best wideout in the league this week as Niwot lost to the Mountain Lions. Noterman tallied three receptions for 124 yards. Lorne Jenkins helped Niwot's passing attack out by catching four balls for 57 yards.

Nathan Merriman provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Cougars fell to Mountain View. He completed 15 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 41 yards.

Niwot's Merriman and Noterman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Merriman has thrown for 1390 yards this season, while Noterman, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 18 catches for 426 yards. Bart Mayes' team's Clymer leads the league in rushing yards with 717.

A big matchup in 4A Northern this week will be when Chris Jones' team takes on Loveland. As it stands, the Wizards are in first, while the Indians are in fourth.

Loveland made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,414 from 7,583. The advance stemmed from a 29-6 victory over Greeley West last week.
