Softball Recap: Effingham Has No Trouble Against Hillsboro

Effingham had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Hillsboro on Monday. The Hearts put the hurt on the Hiltoppers with a sharp 10-2 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hearts considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Natalie Armstrong made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Mya Harvey was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Madi Kirk was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI.

Effingham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Effingham pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hillsboro, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Effingham will venture away from home to take on Robinson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hillsboro, they will welcome Vandalia at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
