Thatcher unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 58-31 loss at the hands of the Amphitheater Panthers on Wednesday. The contest was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly the Eagles struggled afterwards.

Thatcher's loss came despite strong showings from Cambria Wakefield and Makenzi Lunt. Wakefield went 6 for 15 en route to 14 points plus six rebounds and two steals, while Lunt earned five points plus seven rebounds. What's more, Lunt also racked up three offensive rebounds, the most she's had since back in November of 2023.

Even though they lost, Thatcher smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 18 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games dating back to last season.

Amphitheater's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Erika Gaxiola, who posted 18 points plus eight rebounds and five steals. Monica Verrett was another key player, scoring 20 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds.

Thatcher will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Payson at 6:00 p.m. on December 3rd. As for Amphitheater, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-44 loss against Flowing Wells on the 22nd.
