The Evergreen Valley Cougars will square off against the Gunderson Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Evergreen Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hill, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 19-13 victory on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their two-run performance the match before.
Mackenzie Brongiel was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Daven Woodham, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
Evergreen Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Gunderson waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Cardinals. 17 seems to be a good number for the Grizzlies as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Dezirae Regalado made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Jaelyn Vejar and Julie Ordaz did most of the damage at the plate: Vejar went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Ordaz scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most RBI Vejar has posted since back in April of 2024. Sophia Ocanas was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Gunderson's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Evergreen Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Evergreen Valley might still be hurting after the 21-11 loss they got from Gunderson in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
