Preview: Cape Fear Colts vs. South View Tigers
The Cape Fear Colts will head out on the road to face off against the South View Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cape Fear posted their biggest victory since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Jack Britt with a sharp 64-39 victory. Given Cape Fear's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Jack Britt is ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jayda Angel, who scored 31 points. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cape Fear's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayia Starling, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, South View came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Gray's Creek 58-33. 58 seems to be a good number for South View as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Cape Fear pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for South View, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Cape Fear didn't have too much breathing room in their match against South View when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 56-52 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cape Fear since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
