Softball Game Preview: Doniphan Dons vs. Alton Comets

The Doniphan Dons will face off against the Alton Comets at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Doniphan is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Missouri's top teams: Kennett, who was ranked seventh at the time (Doniphan was ranked tenth). The Dons came up short against the Indians on Thursday, falling 14-2. The Dons' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Dalila Watson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.

Meanwhile, Alton lost 16-1 to Van Buren on Thursday. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Doniphan's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Alton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Everything went Doniphan's way against Alton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Doniphan made off with a 16-6 win. Will the Dons repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
