Baseball Game Preview: Augusta Southeastern Suns vs. Hamilton/Warsaw Titans

The Augusta Southeastern Suns will take on the Hamilton/Warsaw Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hamilton/Warsaw took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Augusta Southeastern, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Augusta Southeastern was able to grind out a solid victory over West Prairie, taking the game 9-6. The Suns haven't had any issues with the Cyclones recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Brady McClintock and Griffin Tippey were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, McClintock struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Tippey struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave McClintock a new career-high. At the plate, McClintock got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Tippey got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Tippey is becoming a predictor of Augusta Southeastern's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-11 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Stigall, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one triple. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Liberty hit Hamilton/Warsaw with a six-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Titans lost 12-2 to the Eagles. The Titans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Augusta Southeastern's victory bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Hamilton/Warsaw, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.

Augusta Southeastern beat Hamilton/Warsaw 4-1 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Suns repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
