Baseball Recap: Dirigo Takes a Loss

Dirigo extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-5 in the process. They came up short against the Nokomis Warriors, falling 17-8. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Caiden Skidgell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Skidgell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Skidgell wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Crosby, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Crosby has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another was Dominick Varnum, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Nokomis, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. That looming 17-8 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Nokomis' side, they got a great performance from Zach Furrow as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Caden Chretien was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Isaac Furrow was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Dirigo will welcome Spruce Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Nokomis, they will venture away from home to face off against Belfast at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
