The Union Cougars will take on the Grantsville Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
It was a proper cat-fight when Union duked it out withRichfield two weeks ago. Union might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Richfield an easy 51-30 win. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Union had strong showings from LYDIA HOSCHOUER, who went 6 of 10 en route to 17 points and three steals, and Lisa Richards, who posted two points. HOSCHOUER is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.
Even though they lost, Union smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Grantsville put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 59-28 victory over Judge Memorial Catholic. The Cowboys have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season.
Union better keep an eye on Avery Allred. She was instrumental in Grantsville's win, going 8 of 14 on her way to 23 points along with six boards and six steals. Allred is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylee Lowder, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven boards and six assists.
Grantsville's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. As for Union, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Union has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Grantsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Union took a serious blow against Grantsville when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 72-38. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lowder, who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine steals.
