Football Game Preview: Northwest Christian Wolverines vs. Wahkiakum Mules

The Northwest Christian Wolverines will take on the Wahkiakum Mules at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Thursday, Northwest Christian took their contest with ease, bagging a 40-12 win over Oakville. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Wahkiakum's strategy against Chief Leschi on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mules blew the Warriors out of the water with a 72-6 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 58-6.

Wahkiakum's win came from a few key players Northwest Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jayden Stoddard, who threw for 286 yards and six touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 55 yards. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in October of 2024. Cooper Carlson was Stoddard's top target, picking up 79 receiving yards and one TD, while also rushing for 131 yards and one score on only five carries.

Wahkiakum was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 309 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 165 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Wahkiakum's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Stoddard and Kyle Gonzales, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece.

Northwest Christian's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Wahkiakum, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
