Baseball Recap: Newkirk Takes a Loss

Newkirk fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Tonkawa on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 9-8. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Buccaneers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Kyson Thiel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Grady Wood was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Newkirk's loss dropped their record down to 10-9-1. As for Tonkawa, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newkirk will challenge Woodland at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tonkawa, they will face off against Frontier at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Buccaneers surely won't give up without a fight.
