Baseball Recap: Washburn Wins Going Away Against Hancock County

Washburn came out on top against Hancock County on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run third inning. The Pirates blew past the Indians 12-1. Considering the Pirates have won six games by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Riley Munsey made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Washburn's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 5-6-1 when he doesn't). Munsey was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Washburn got a big performance out of Landry Coffey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one double. The Pirates are undefeated when Coffey posts two or more runs, but 5-8-1 otherwise. David Bailey was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

Washburn's win bumped their record up to 10-8-1. As for Hancock County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.

Washburn will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Tuesday.
