Baseball Recap: Millard West Falls Short Against Ranked Lincoln East

Millard West faced Lincoln East in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wildcats took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. That makes it the first time this season the Wildcats have let down their home crowd.

Millard West got a good showing from Payton Roberts, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Roberts has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jared Betts made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double. Kade Skoumal also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Millard West now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Lincoln East, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-2.

Coming up, Millard West will welcome Millard North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Lincoln East, they will be playing at home against Papillion-LaVista on the 21st.
