Football Recap: Morton Skates Past Richland with Ease

Morton never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Richland on Friday. They claimed a resounding 51-7 victory over the Rangers. The Panthers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since September 27, 2024 (when they won 52-0).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Domingo Deering, who rushed for 107 yards and one score on only 12 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 76 yards. Avonte Reese was another key pass catcher, picking up 104 receiving yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Morton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 351 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Morton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.0 points over those games. As for Richland, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Morton is set to square off against their familiar foe Mendenhall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Richland will take on rival Raymond at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Adrean Williams and Cj Martin.
