Soccer Recap: Clayton Comes Up Short

After flying high against Southeast Raleigh last Wednesday, Clayton came back down to earth. Clayton fell just short of the Athens Drive Jaguars by a score of 1-0 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Clayton of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2016.

The defeat snapped Clayton's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-4 record. As for Athens Drive, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clayton will square off against Cleveland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Clayton is facing Cleveland at the right time seeing as Cleveland is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Athens Drive, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Holly Springs at 6:30 p.m. on April 7. Holly Springs' defense has only allowed 0.2 goals per game this season, so Athens Drive's offense will have their work cut out for them.
