Basketball Game Preview: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates vs. Byers Bulldogs

Genoa-Hugo/Karval and Byers are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates will be playing at home against the Byers Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Genoa-Hugo/Karval will be strutting in after a victory while Byers will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Saturday, Genoa-Hugo/Karval earned a 25-18 win over Calhan. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly seven points.

Rylee Corn and Rylee Kelly were among the main playmakers for Genoa-Hugo/Karval as the former posted 13 points and eight rebounds and the latter put up six points and six rebounds. That's the most rebounds Kelly has posted since back in December of 2023.

Byers has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They came up short against Denver Christian on Tuesday, falling 61-38. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Thunder are ranked 16th).

Byers' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval and Byers were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but Genoa-Hugo/Karval came up empty-handed after a 39-38 defeat.
