Football Game Preview: Cabrillo Conquistadores vs. Pioneer Valley Panthers

The Cabrillo Conquistadores will venture away from home to challenge the Pioneer Valley Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cabrillo will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Cabrillo took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Thursday. They really took it to Taft for the full four quarters, racking up a 62-7 win. The game marked the Conquistadores' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Andre Brisco continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 235 yards and four TDs on only 15 carries. Those 235 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Jacob Baraceros was another key back, gaining 137 total yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Pioneer Valley played a tough contest two weeks ago in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Kennedy 51-6. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 664th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 172nd).

Cabrillo's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Pioneer Valley, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Cabrillo beat Pioneer Valley 21-13 in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Conquistadores since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
