Softball Recap: Scranton Picks Up Tenth Straight Win on the Road

Scranton put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Western Yell County Wolverines a 5-0 shutout. The five-run effort marked the Rockets' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Brecken Mainer (2028) made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Mainer (2028) was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Scranton let Emey Pierce (2028) and Katie Vonderheide (2027) run wild. Pierce (2028) went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Vonderheide (2027) scored a run while going 2-for-4. Morgan Lensing (2027) was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Scranton's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Western Yell County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5-1 record this season.

Scranton and Western Yell County will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time Scranton sees the field they'll take on Pottsville at 4:30 p.m. on the 31st. As for Western Yell County, their break will end when they face County Line at 4:30 p.m. on April 1.
