Baseball Recap: Homestead Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Harrison

Homestead faced Harrison in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Spartans fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 7-6. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in June of 2015.

Shane Bardwell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Will Karshner was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Homestead's loss dropped their record down to 18-4. As for Harrison, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Homestead is taking a road trip to challenge Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Braves will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Harrison, they will square off against Benton Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
