Softball Game Preview: Momence Momence Athletics vs. Watseka Warriors

The Momence Momence Athletics are taking a road trip to challenge the Watseka Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Momence and St. Anne had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Momence Athletics fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 4-3 on Monday.

Emma Varnak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Momence saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydnee Vanswol, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Cmyah Sneed also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Milford hit Watseka with a five-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors came up short against the Bearcats, falling 13-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Warriors have suffered since April 14th.

Watseka's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-13. As for Momence, their loss was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-17.

Momence suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Watseka in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Momence Athletics avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
