Independence is on an eight-game streak of home wins, while San Jose is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The 76ers will host the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, Independence got the win against James Lick by a conclusive 16-1. The 76ers haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Laila Morales was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Sanchez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .621. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, San Jose hadn't done well against Gunderson recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Bulldogs blew past the Grizzlies 23-16.
San Jose got a massive performance out of Genesis Davila, who went a perfect 6-for-6 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Davila has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was April Barron, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple.
San Jose is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Independence, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
Independence took their victory against San Jose when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 17-6 score. Will the 76ers repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
