Baseball Recap: La Joya Community Snags Ninth Win in Last Ten Games

The La Joya Community Fighting Lobos earned a 6-1 victory over the Washington Rams on Tuesday.

Gavino Bustamante was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bustamante was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jordan Russell and Aidan Escobedo did most of the damage at the plate: Russell went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Escobedo went 1-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Russell has hit this season. Carlos Maldonado was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

La Joya Community is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Washington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
