Softball Game Preview: Grandview Zebras vs. Maypearl Panthers

Grandview is a perfect 10-0 against Maypearl since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Grandview will face off against Maypearl at 7:00 p.m. Grandview's pitching crew has only allowed 1.4 runs per game this season, so Maypearl's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Maypearl will be up against a hot Grandview team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Grandview never let Palmer get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Wednesday. The Zebras might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Maypearl challenged Scurry-Rosser on Friday. Maypearl skirted past Scurry-Rosser 1-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Not much got past Kaelyn Smith, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Scurry-Rosser off the board. That's the most strikeouts Smith has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, Maypearl's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Short, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Maypearl's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Grandview, their record is now 15-3.

Everything went Grandview's way against Maypearl in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Grandview made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grandview since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
