Baseball Recap: New Castle Takes a Loss

New Castle fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Mars on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Fightin' Planets by a score of 5-4. The Hurricanes haven't had much luck with the Fightin' Planets recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Dominic Miller was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Phil Laurenza also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Miller wasn't the only one working in the hit department: New Castle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

New Castle's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Mars, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-2.

While New Castle had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
