Southern Choctaw comes up short despite Marcionna Young's dominant performance

Recap: Southern Choctaw Indians vs. Leroy Bears

It was a good run, but the Southern Choctaw Indians unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Leroy by a score of 51-48. Southern Choctaw has struggled against Leroy recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Southern Choctaw lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marcionna Young. Despite the final result, she scored 26 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Young scored a full 54.2% of Southern Choctaw's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keri Mcgee, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Southern Choctaw were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leroy only pulled down two offensive rebounds.

Chauncey Dixon continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Leroy, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Dixon's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Marley Dixon was another key contributor, scoring seven points.

Southern Choctaw's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Leroy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southern Choctaw will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fruitdale at 5:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Leroy will be home for the holidays to greet Excel at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
