Baseball Recap: Heritage Mountaineers vs. South-Doyle Cherokees

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Heritage ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the South-Doyle Cherokees 5-4. Winning may never get old, but Heritage sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.

Ryan (R.J.) Ilardi looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, William (Thomas) Bowers was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Clay Travis was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Heritage's victory bumped their record up to 14-17. As for South-Doyle, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-13-1 record this season.

Heritage will challenge Loudon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last six games Heritage has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. South-Doyle does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
