Berkeley Miller made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Bulluck, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Martha Calhoun, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Rocky Mount Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pungo Christian Academy struck out 13 times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Faith Christian). Everything went their way against Arendell Parrott Academy on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for Faith Christian.
Like Rocky Mount Academy, Faith Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Payton Whitley. Throwing, Whitley pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Peyton Hagans pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Whitley posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. At the plate, Whitley went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Hagans got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That triple was Whitley's first of the season.
In other batting news, Abby Vann was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Lizzie Camp was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Rocky Mount Academy pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Faith Christian, their record now sits at 8-10.
Faith Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Rocky Mount Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Faith Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Rocky Mount Academy keep running through batters, or will the Patriots buck the trend?
Rocky Mount Academy took their win against Faith Christian in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
