Football Recap: Colonia Piles Up the Points Against Perth Amboy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Colonia). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-18 victory over the Perth Amboy Panthers. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.

Colonia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyle Bell led the charge by rushing for 86 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Bell also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making two total tackles. Rj Wortman was in the mix too, providing Colonia with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Colonia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Colonia, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Wortman, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Perth Amboy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Izyk Gordon, who rushed for 25 yards and one TD, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. He was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 50 yards.

Colonia now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Perth Amboy, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Colonia will host Edison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.75 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Perth Amboy, they will head out to take on Woodbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
