Volleyball Recap: River Forest Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Gracelyn Cordero and Zoey Easton

River Forest was the 3-0 winner over Hammond Morton when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Ingots fell just short of the Governors by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. While the Ingots didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Governors 25-14 in the first set.

River Forest actually scored more points across those five sets (103-102), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 14-25, 21-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-7.

Despite the defeat, River Forest had strong showings from Zoey Easton, who had 14 digs, and Gracelyn Cordero, who had ten kills, eight digs, and one block. Cordero is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last four games she's played. Hope Maldonado also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for River Forest and nudges their season record down to 3-15. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-9 Hammond Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.3% over those games). As for Hammond Morton, the victory snapped their losing streak at five matches and leaves them with a 9-6 record.

River Forest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 loss against Griffith on the 25th. As for Hammond Morton, they will face off against Hammond Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
